Wow is all I can say! I called with a few questions about sausages (lol). They answered my questions, and even text me pictures to make sure I had the right thing! When I said "you can do that? She relied "well, I own the joint, so I can do what I want!"!! I will be ordering from here for all my sausage needs (again, lol)!!

Highly recommend going here if you're searching for something European (grocery wise)! They have a good selection of German beers and even have quite a few of the Oktoberfest beers around Oktoberfest. Most importantly, I go here for coffee and tea. Their tea selection is amazing! Especially for unique, herbal teas (great if you're sick or just trying to stay away from caffeine). The video is only part of their tea selection, not all of it. I really love the Loyd brand of tea, especially the Strawberry Rhubarb flavor. It's so hard to find a strawberry tea! I also love the Teekanne Ginger Honey tea; it's great at settling an upset stomach or if you're nauseous and it actually tastes good! I also highly recommend Dallmayr coffee. I get some as gifts, since their coffee is low acidity but still tastes full bodied. 10/10 recommend. It's my favorite coffee brand. The coffee and tea can be found on the second floor, just head up the stairs and go to the right. I've also been here to pick up an assortment of chocolates as gifts whenever I stay over with friends/family at their place, and it's been a big hit! Especially the Icelandic chocolate.

NOTE: The shop closes at 7 PM until March. Their website still says 8 PM. I'm disappointed we missed them today.

Ok so I'm a vegetarian so I didn't come for shopping! Ha. We came for the rooftop to have a beer and a pretzel! It was such a hot day but Genes is on the heart of Lincoln Square and the roof has a great view and vibes. We had an Oktoberfest and a Bavarian pretzel. The space fills up so be mindful of that but this is a great place to chill and enjoy a summer day. Service was friendly and nice!

Gene's has one of the cutest (sort of hidden) rooftops in the city. But beware - they are cash only! There is an ATM on the rooftop though. There are not a ton of vegetarian options, as the star of the menu is the sausage, but there was enough for a fun little happy hour appetizer. We ordered the potato pancakes and the pretzel. Both were massive! They had a variety of local mustards to choose from which were great. The potato pancakes came with apple sauce or sour cream (or both). It was a perfect rooftop snack! And of course, they have beer, cider, seltzer. The prices were reasonable as well! The rooftop has a great view of the neighborhood and plenty of umbrellas to provide shade.

It's been so long since I've been at Gene's--several years, and in fact I probably haven't visited since shortly after they opened. It's so difficult to get parking around here that it doesn't tend to be very convenient or easy for me to pop in. Earlier this week I decided to stop in to get some sliced turkey, since visiting Mariano's for one item feels like an incredible chore. Gene's has a very small footprint, though it is a two-story shop. Downstairs is where the produce and meat counter are, as well as other grocery items and a dessert display. I was really surprised to find ground chicken here, which will be useful for the lettuce wraps I like to make (and cheaper than what I buy at other stores). A bigger surprise was that they carry packages of lettuce that are separated, which I love because when making the aforementioned wraps I'm always ripping lettuce into pieces. Gene's is easy to shop, which I appreciate since I hate grocery shopping. Hopefully I'll be able to visit again soon!
